Emotional Wellness

Emotional wellness is an important part of our overall wellbeing. With built up anger, stress, and emotions that have not been dealt with our bodies will begin to show physical effects.

Many natural healing centers and practitioners offer emotional release to their clients. It has been proven to be an effective way to rid a person of negative energy as well as emotional pain and increase the person’s positive energy.

It is as important to keep on top of emotional health as it is our physical health. Unfortunately, a stigma is sometimes attached to caring for our emotions and many people do not get the help they need. Wellness depends on our ability to determine what is causing us pain or stress and dealing with the underlying issues.

In a circular fashion our emotions affect our health, and our health effects our emotions. Consider a woman who is going through menopause. She is experiencing actual physical symptoms that may lead to emotional problems. These emotional problems will lead to increased stress which in turn will affect her health. If you feel as though you are living in A Clockwork Orange you would not be far off!

Hit the Road, Jack
There are many natural ways to improve our mental wellness. In what might sound like a conflict it is important to both have friends and respect your alone time. We need friends for positive social interaction. It is important to choose friends who are not constantly needy or energy draining. Great friends have much to offer you and you have much to share with them. This give and take process allows you to relieve stress and have a sounding board for problems.

Solitude, or time alone, is also very important. You can use this time to reflect on any problems you may have and brainstorm ways to solve them. You can rejoice in the positives in your life. You can meditate and you can do activities that build brain power. Most importantly, you can do nothing; just relaxing is a great way to relieve stress and improve emotional well being.

Exercise, discovering a new passion or hobby, and making time in your life for pleasurable activities also lead to positive wellbeing. Exercise is especially helpful as it releases “happy” chemicals or endorphins which will make you feel better immediately.

And Don’t You Come Back, No More!
No matter how well you are feeling there will always be issues that arise that can threaten your emotional wellbeing. You can fend these off by having a plan in place to deal with these issues when they arise. If you are required to associate with a certain person who constantly drains your energy you can have a prepared plan for dealing with her. If you know you will be faced with a stressful situation, such as your in-laws arriving for a visit, being prepared with a plan will help head off the stress before it can become severe.

And yes, there will be situations you cannot prepare for. That is the main reason it is important to keep yourself emotionally healthy. By taking time for yourself, addressing past and current issues, and caring for your emotions you will be able to deal with stressful situations without them negatively affecting your emotional wellbeing.
